Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan Stabbed During Home Invasion, Recovering Post-Surgery
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, is recovering after being stabbed during a home invasion at his Bandra residence in Mumbai early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m. when an unidentified intruder broke into Khan’s 11th-floor apartment. Awakened by the disturbance, Khan confronted the intruder, leading to a scuffle during which he sustained six stab wounds, including one near the spine.
Khan was promptly transported to Lilavati Hospital by his elder son, Ibrahim, and a caretaker around 3:00 a.m. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, reported that Khan underwent surgery performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange. While the injuries are not life-threatening, the full extent of the damage will be assessed post-surgery. Notably, a foreign object was detected near his spine, and a deep wound on his left wrist will require plastic surgery.
Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children were present in the apartment during the incident but were unharmed. A female employee at the residence was also attacked and is currently receiving treatment.
The Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into the attack, focusing on how the intruder bypassed building security. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and three suspects have reportedly been detained for questioning. The incident has sparked concerns about safety in Mumbai, particularly in celebrity-populated suburbs like Bandra. Calls for increased police presence have been made by public figures, including actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt, who stated, “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before.”
Saif Ali Khan, son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, has had a prolific career in the Indian film industry, featuring in over 70 films and television series. His family has requested privacy during this time and has urged fans and the media to be patient as the investigation unfolds.
